The Cerebral Palsy Society launched their getOutThere pilot project on the 1st September 2007. The pilot has now become a programme! The getOutThere programme is in the process of being rolled out around NZ. By the end of 2009 it is hoped to be operating in all major towns.

This programme is targeted at getting people with cerebral palsy (who have a Total Mobility card and are a member of the Society) out into the community more.

It is a voucher system that helps fund that part of the taxi fare that is not covered by the Total Mobility Scheme

in your area. It is presently being run in Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Mt Maunganui, Rotorua, New`Plymouth, Hawera and Whangarei.

The Society intends to supply vouchers to the value of approximately $200 per person per 6 months to approved applicants. The vouchers can be used for transport at the user’s discretion.

The Society has entered into agreement with selected taxi companies to accept these vouchers. (SEE BELOW)
From analysis of data this will equate to the average user being able to double the number of trips currently untaken each year.
