Conductive Education was developed by Professor Andras Peto,
a physician, in Budapest, Hungary in the 1920s. In 1945
he established the present-day Peto Institute for people
with motor disabilities which included training staff to
work with children with cerebral palsy. These ‘conductors’
are educators who work alongside child and parent, motivating
and guiding them to solve problems in an intensive, comprehensive
structured learning programme. The elements of Conductive
Education are group learning, rhythmic intention and the
task series that stimulates the senses and encourages self-awareness
through activity. The holistic approach of Conductive Education
includes pre-school learning, motor skills, cognition, social
and emotional development.
