On 1 February 2011, a consultation workshop was held at Western
Springs Community Hall. Seventy people, from a wide range
of community organisations and the disability advisory groups
of the former councils, attended. Robust discussions were
held in small groups. Written feedback was also received from
6 people who were unable to attend the workshop.
This workshops recommendations were passed onto the Regional
Development and Operations Committee. The committee endorsed
the recommendations which included a nominated Councillor
to act as Liaison Councillor between Council and the Disability
Leadership Group
The recommended process for setting up the Group is broadly
consistent with the processes followed for the Ethnic and
Pacific Peoples Advisory Panels. The aim is to establish the
Disability Leadership Group by 30 April 2011.
