Attending the Banquet of Sport of Kings

Seventy members of the Cerebral Palsy Society witnessed the cut and thrust of the 2010 Auckland Trotting cup and its supporting races, on Friday 12th May, at Alexandra Park.

Such names as Attention Seeker, Devil Dodger and Monkey King were irresistible. The crowd were simply compelled to lay their money down. Sometimes it came off, sometimes it didn’t. The over-riding point is that everyone was there, in with a chance.
Throughout the night complimentary beverages, a race book, and a banquet to satisfy the largest craving were at hand, what more could one ask for?

Punters had a choice of watching the race live or on the big screens dotted around the “Top of the Park” restaurant. Whatever the choice it was a thrill to watch the drivers, in their spectacular coloured silks, control their horses as they charged for the finish line. Indeed, the drivers were skilled but it was the horses that stoled the show as they strained every muscle, within their harnesses, for the glory of being crowned winners.

The dinners who had preference to seafood were in paradise. Shellfish, crustaceans and a variety of fish abound as well as meat and salad. The dessert was devilously tempting and most people indulged. Well why not. It was a night out and the treats were there for the taking.

Well I don’t know about you guys but I had a great night out and I came away a very wealthy man, as I was $6 richer.

Thanks must go, once again, to member manager Janet Chapman whose meticulous planning ensured everything ran smoothly.
