Focus 2000 Ltd changes
to Iris Ltd
|
In Greek mythology Iris is the personification
of the rainbow and the messenger of the gods. It is said Iris linked
the gods to humanity.
Focus 2000 was started in 1996 as the business arm of the Cerebral
Palsy Society and on Thursday 22nd October ’09, it re-launched
its new brand and company direction under the name of Iris. Working
alongside the Cerebral Palsy society Iris pledged to continue its
spread of humanity, to ensure its clients strive to be the very best
they can be. |

Iris will continue to offer quality in its core and
diverse services which include Conductive Education, Rehabilitation,
Community living and Medi-Call, which is a registered nursing service.
There was a very strong positive vibe at the function which was held
at Pinot’s in Remuera. Kaumatua Stan Kukutai opened proceedings,
followed by some reflections by Iris CEO John Wade
John spoke about embarking on a journey and how the challenges over
the years have made the company stronger. |
He spoke about the importance of listening and being
open to advice on “what we can do better”.
Director General of Health, Stephen McKernan, agreed that the
challenges Focus 2000 faced has made Iris a lot stronger, as it
was prepared to work and listen to stakeholders and to identify
innovation

| Iris board Chair, Dianne Kidd acknowledged
the board who governed the expertise in health, to ensure people
with higher needs receive the quality of life they deserve. She
said the board was very keen to work together and promote independence,
so that people can have regular lives.
Perhaps the most poignant moments came when the two guest speakers
with Cerebral Palsy spoke about their lives and experiences. Allyson
Hamlett revealed her new musical composition “Open your eyes.”
A belated musical experience, denied her in her youth when a music
teacher refused to give her lessons. She also spoke about the futile
attempts to obtain employment despite completing BA and Diploma
of Library and Information studies degrees.
Adventurer and now disability advisor for Ministry of Education,
Gary Endacott spoke about the importance of attitude. "Disability
is not a licence to underachieve” said Gary. In his view we
spend far too much time arguing about appropriate language and not
enough time focusing on becoming independent.
Obviously Allyson and Gary are strong individuals, who have accepted
their disability and have moved on to carve out a life of quality
for themselves. The disabled community looks forward to the support
of Iris, which will give their clients every chance of exploring
opportunities that come their way.
