Denny’s Brunch Christchurch
Again Canterbury turned on the fine weather for us. The brunch at Denny’s Restaurant went down a real treat. It was a great success and the opportunity for our members to catch-up again. A big thank you must go to Michael Turner. (white shirt on the left)

Michael is a member of the Society, and has come up with some great ideas for our Southern folk. Talk about on to it, Michael is already busily looking at venue options for the next “GetToGether.”

Thumbs up for Denny’s who provided us with our own seating area, excellent service and delicious food. The meals were huge. I know I waddled out of the restaurant feeling rather full,

The Society subsidised the brunch to help towards the cost for our members.

It was an extra special day for one of our members. Coincidently Michael Yeatman’s birthday fell on the same day as the brunch and the Society decided it would be a good idea to provide the cake. Well! That’s not as easy as it sounds, especially when you live in Auckland and travelling for 3hours.

IDEA!!! A caramel chocolate mud cake Mmm. Frozen will do the trick. Not quite so. For such a small cake the weight was unbelievably heavy. By the time I got to the airport loaded down with my overnight bag, computer bag, handbag and the chocolate mud cake, plus a few other bits and pieces in my cabin bag, I was exhausted.

I was met by a lovely lady who helped me with the new ticketing system, she picked my cabin bag up with the cake in it and immediately said “ I am sorry madam but you will have to check this bag in. It’s too heavy for cabin luggage.” HORROR!!! I was not planning to present Michael a “pancake” with candles for his birthday, he could order that at Denny’s. Consequently compromises were made and Michael’s cake was safe

The heavy cake

Look! Michael ordered pancakes
