"His brain is perfectly functional. It’s just that his body is useless. Think of it as the opposite of you,” said Richard Pimentel cuttingly to a “jock” at the local skating ring who labeled his Cerebral Palsy mate, Art Honneyman, retarded just because he looked different. This quote which is pinched from the trailer on the movie’s website www.musicwithinmovie.com is typical of the confrontational but humorous style of the story line. Armed with a natural talent for public speaking and a winning personality, Pimental who loses his hearing to a bomb blast during a tour of duty in Vietnam, becomes a catalyst for change for people with disabilities seeking work. The work environment had long been a place where the disabled had been treated with pity at best and disdain as a matter of course. The time was right for a person to step up to change people’s attitudes. Richard Pimental fulfilled this role. Without his hearing Richard is all the more prepared to listen to the message deep within himself, and to carry that message to the thousands of people whose lives are improved by the movement he helps to organize and which led to the passing of the Disabilities Act in the USA. A must see movie for anyone who believes in a fair go. The Society has access to 2 for 1 passes. That is, if two of you go along then one will get in for free…. Of course you could think of it as both getting in for half price. If you want a 2 for 1 pass then contact the Society on 0800 503-603 or email cpsociety@cpsociety.org.nz and we can organise to get these passes to you, first in first served!. The movie is on at the Rialto in Newmarket (good wheelchair access), beginning from the 24th April and going through till approximately the 8th May |
