To see photos of lunch

Hey Trish how are you handling all the food”

“Piece of cake,” beamed back Patricia Harder as she scoffed down another delicious morsel, at the Auckland version of the Cerebral Palsy Christmas lunch, held at Ellerlie’s Novotel, in mid December.

General Manager Harvey Brunt welcomed the 146 members to this splendid occasion and invited everyone to enjoy the spirit of Christmas. A second invitation was not needed as everyone tucked into an excellent meal followed by the essential delights of dessert.

A most enjoyable time was had by all and this was expressed in many ways. Lyn Hurst elegantly spoke of the wonderful ambiance. When asked his opinion Michael Bull murmured “good” as he attacked his meal with vigour. On the other hand Ivan Ford stated.

“300 per cent increase in admittance, 300 per cent increase in attendance. It must have been good—and it was” He always been a bit of an Intellectual, our Ivan. Has he not!!!

As the food settled in collective stomachs, ears were abuzz with the sound of Highland pipes. The vision was even more spectacular than the sound as Santa appeared with his own piped band. Santa led the band almost as well as Peter Atkinson.

Santa entered the building, bellowed out his trade mark catch cry of Ho Ho Ho and then proceeded to throw out lollies in all directions, as well as gifting presents to well deserving little ones

Meantime Santa’s piped band played on, complete with red socks on the end of the bagpipes.

Karl Sangster, President of the Cerebral Palsy Society, thanked one and all for attending. He talked proudly of the many accomplishments throughout 2007, wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year and reminded everyone of the upcoming holiday boccia tournament in January.

Santa’s departure was a signal for people to mix and mingle, to meet up with old friends and to be introduced to new friends.

Some, who held the right numbered name tag, were sent off home in style with prizes that wetted the palate or titillated the taste buds.

No wonder Ron Hannken’s better half Marie said

“We had a great time. This was definitely worth the journey from Waihi. ”
