GetOutThere goes to Christchurch

The getOutThere project was launched in September and now has over 50 people enrolled in it. At present the pilot is occurring in Auckland, but in November it is being extend to Christchurch.

The pilot in Auckland is doing the job for which it was intended, namely allowing people with cerebral palsy to get out into the community more. To be eligible to join the program and receive vouchers that subsidize your transport you need to: have cerebral palsy, have a Total Mobility card and be a member of the Society. To join the program, download the application form from HERE For people in Auckland and Christchurch who are eligible, we encourage you to apply.

Note: the Society is only charged for the vouchers when they have been used with one of the selected taxi companies. If the vouchers are not used by their expiry date, then they become invalid and no cost is incurred by the Society for these expired vouchers.

Below are comments from users:

"I was able to attend a fair, visit friends and go shopping at St Lukes, all of these by myself. It has given my mother a break and added to my confidence. Without the vouchers I probably wouldn't have done any of these trips!" Mandy Slade

“I have used my vouchers to take my scooter into the city. Once in there I can drive around and go to the places I haven’t been to in ages. Boy, the city has changed. I am planning to use the vouchers to attend orchestral performances over the coming months, something that the vouchers have made it easier for me to do” Ivan Ford

“We were very grateful for the taxi vouchers because of the list of taxi companies involved (included in the covering letter). I was always worried about Heather going in a taxi with a driver we didn’t know and who may turn out to have little English. Now we have got a regular driver (who we have known for years but weren’t bright enough to think of) and it frees up the whole family and we know she is safe. Heather’s father doesn’t drive so it enables him to be more involved with her activities. Also very grateful for the vouchers which are getting used at a great rate.” Harriet (Heather’s Mother)

“ With the vouchers I have been able to take friends out for a coffee and get some shopping done at the malls. They are enabling me to keep in touch more than just sending emails and txts” Leonie Brunt
