Laura Fergusson Trust huge range of Services

The Laura Fergusson Trust (LFT) was established 40yrs ago to cater for people between the ages 16-65yrs and provides day rehabilitation, respite, short -term and transitional living services for physical and cognitive disabilities.

There are some very impressive services that our members can easily hook into. The most impressive aspect of these services is that they are designed to cater for the needs of the individual. The client has the opportunity to map out his/her future pathways with the support of a multidisciplinary staffed team including Physio’s, OT’s, speech language therapists, rehabilitation coaches, registered nurses, general practitioner, vocational and learning tutors.
Transitional and Supported living services are available which offer Community living options and lifestyle choices.

As part of the Respite service a seven bed High Needs Unit has been established providing 24/7 out of home respite.

This service is targeted for young adults between the ages of 16-30 who come under the umbrella of Ministry of Health funding. Referrals are via Taikura Trust. All referrals are assessed by the LFT team for suitability.

“I love it (at Laura Fergusson) because they treat me like an adult. They are there when I need them but also give me space to be me,” said Mandy Slade one of the clients participating in the Respite Service.

Mandy has been transitioned into a self contained unit that is attached to the respite service where she is able to be more independent but still managed by the high needs respite staff. That transition is in preparation for Mandy to make future choices for living options.

“As a solo parent without family around (it has been extremely difficult.) LFT has become that "family" and I know she will be well looked after under their care for many years to come,” said Mandy’s mum Lynn Slade.

“I can't say how great it’s been to finally find a place that provides such a fantastic service as Laura Fergusson. They have welcomed our young adults, with a service, that, we as parents once only dreamed of.”

The day activities programme has been developed in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development. It is primarily for school leavers (age 21 plus) who have been assessed as having very high needs.
