John’s sister Anne had intellectual and sensory disability from birth, and provided him with a personal and powerful appreciation of the resilience, strength and potential of people that live with a disability. It also made him aware of how necessary and vital it was to extend support to the family. “My involvement with Anne gave me an appreciation of the need to involve the family on how services are designed and delivered”. John is very excited about the range of services that Focus 2000 offers. Services cover the whole life span, giving the child the best possible start with its Conductive Education program, and reflect a ‘whole person’ approach in the provision of physical, social and cognitive rehabilitation services. “I’m really pleased to see Conductive Education run on site because it reminds us each day why we are here and I look forward to seeing the Rehab Centre used actively by clients.” He is most impressed with the new renovations at Focus 2000, including the recently installed lift which represents a commitment to making the services accessible John brings with him a diverse range of experience as both a practitioner and as a manager, underpinned by a belief in the value of people. John describes himself as an Irish – Kiwi, born in New Zealand of Irish stock and raised in Ireland and England. He is married to Linda and has three teenage children - Calum, Hannah and Jordan. He is an outdoors and sports mad kind of person that enjoys walking, swimming, kayaking. He coaches youth soccer for the Central club in Auckland. Ross Flood |
